Young Journalists Programme

The five finalists of the Young Journalists' Programme  within the framework of the first Innovation Competition on Decentralized Energy Solutions in Ethiopia have been selected. The young journalists have the possibility to report about the Innovation Competition and receive attractive support packages, including compensation for travel expenses, promotion of their work through the Ethiopian-German Energy Cooperation, as well as a certificate of participation. The best story produced within the programme will also be awarded with a gift of appreciation.

Dargie Kahsay

Finalist of the Young Journalist Programme Dargie Kahsay

Journalist at the Ethiopian Press Agency (EPA), Senior Reporter for The Ethiopian Herald Newspaper (EPA)

Dargie Kahsay holds a BA Degree in Political Science and International Relations from the Addis Ababa University. During is time at the university he was a member at Peace Club, the  African Political Science and International Relations Students Association, and the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Club. 

After graduation, Kahsay joined data collection and enumeration works with different local and international companies, on topics like development, market, health and other social sectors. To fulfill these duties, he travelled to remote areas of the country and enjoyed the rural life with the communities in different places and regions. He worked in data collection for almost two years, after which he started his regular work experiences at the government office as a communication expert and later as a  reporter for local administration. He left this job after two years based on his interest to join the Ethiopian Coffee Sport Club as media expert in 2017. 
Since January 2018, Kahsay works as a reporter for newspaper "The Ethiopian Herald" (EPA). In his positionas a senior reporter he mostly reports on societal and developmental issues due to the influence of his data collection experience.  

Maya Misikir

Journalist based in Addis Abeba

Maya Misikir served as the deputy editor-in-chief for Fortune Newspaper for a year before leaving to engage in freelance writing. Her journalistic experience lies mainly in writing and editing business news and feature pieces, though she has covered social and political stories as well. 
Her writing experience started while she was studying law at Addis Abeba University. Since then her work has included creative and technical content creation, script and proposal writing and editing both as a freelancer and as permanent staff in a corporate and social enterprise setting.
She has also worked in the event business, organizing and executing music concerts for three years. In addition to her regular work, she hosts trivia nights for like-minded groups of friends and acquaintances in the city.
She would like her epitaph to read as ‘Maya was introduced to and fell in love with rugby at the tender age of 23.’

Tewodros Kassa

Assistant Editor at The Ethiopian Herald Newspaper

Tewodros Kassa is an sssistant editor working at The Ethiopian Herald government-owned English-language Newspaper. Tewodros aspires to work with and report for internationally known newspapers and television media and enjoys learning about new ideas and meeting global iconic persons. 
Tewodros has won a range of awards from his organization, private institutions, and renowned individuals for publishing stories at The Ethiopian Herald.  
From the beginning, Tewodros has witnessed outstanding achievement in his academic performance.  
Currently, Tewodros is actively reporting on a variety of issues including science, business, politics and society, among others. 

Tewodros holds a BA Degree in journalism and communications from Addis Ababa University. Currently, he is pursuing a Master of Arts (MA) education in diplomacy and international relations. 

Netsanet Getachew

Finalist of the Young Journalists Programme Netsanew Getachew

Radio Journalist in Ethiopia

Netsanet Getachew works in Radio Journalism and was invited on Ethiopian FM 97.1, where he aired about 4 programs. For the past 2 years he was working at the Ministry of Education in the field of educational mass media. As a media journalist in an agency he produced and aired more than 100 series and event-based programs on MoE Tv of Ethiopia. Furhtermore, he participated as a host for MoE TV at the Gondar and Bahirdar university graduation day.
