Conditions of Participation

1. The Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH with is is organising a Young Journalist (YJ) Programme in the framework of the “Innovation Competition on Decentralised Energy in Ethiopia“ ( “Innovation Competition” in this document).

2. The YJ Programme is open to (i) Journalists between 18 and 35 years of age; that (ii) have proven experience in journalism in Ethiopia (iii) have first experience in reporting on topics related to energy, science, technology or sustainable development (iv) good knowledge of English and Amharic.

3. Journalists meeting these criteria are encouraged to apply by no later than 17 Ferbuary 2021 via the website Apply here.

4. Applicants should be able to cover and report on the innovation competition between February and June 2021. If the situation allows, this will also include travels to different locations in Ethiopia. Travel expenses will be compensated by GIZ.

5. The following assessment criteria will be used to select the Young Journalists:

(i) Meeting above-mentioned eligibility criteria

(ii) Specific journalism experience

(iii) Quality of provided media samples

6. The selected Young Journalists will be provided with adequate training before reporting on the subject matter. Participation in these three workshops will be compulsory. The training workshops are planned for 23 February, in March and Mai (exact dates to be confirmed).

7. Participants will receive a Certificate of Participation at the end of their assignment, and awards will be given to the best journalistic work.
